Leadership Blog #4

1. I LOVED Tamara's analogy about how we are the conductors of our orchestra (our life). At this point in my life, my song has had to shift a bit. I think a part that should be playing a little bit louder right now is my education and dedication to working hard. I'm fresh into college, and as she explained, it can be really hard and distracting with the great social aspect that comes with BYU, especially your freshman year. I am getting better at mastering and devoting more time to my studies, but that is definitely something right now that should be playing a little louder than maybe the social life. To make my song more beautiful, I could probably rid many of the fun and entertaining elements of the song.. AKA: technology, Facebook, playing games and swooning over cute videos with my roommates. While these elements are great to have in my song, ridding the amount and loudness of them would make my song more perfect and beautiful.

2. To me, Tamara's suggestion that we "peacefully hurry" means that we are constantly moving forward toward something, but that we are doing it with a good and positive attitude, finding out what is most important, and working at it bit by bit.

To help me "peacefully hurry" in my life, I think I can learn to simplify, and to be focused in what I am doing at the time. I think it helps if we are not constantly focusing on the million things we need to do, but rather taking the time to focus and be in the present for what we need to do at the time, and continue moving with an upbeat and positive attitude.

3. Three Goals to help me manage time better:

-Have a weekly and daily reflection
Understand what things I need to do for the week, and refer back to those objectives daily. Each morning know what I need to accomplish.
-Prioritize
Decide what things are most important to me, and make sure I am spending the time doing the things that uphold my values and will help me achieve my goals and objective in life.
-SIMPLIFY
Rid myself of distractions, and dedicate myself to being "all there" in every situation I am in.

Keep a journal and keep a positive attitude!!!
