Leadership Blog #12

I am so happy that we discussed public speaking this week! This is something I believe is such a crucial and excellent skill to have in our lives. There were definitely many areas that stood out to me as ways that I can better improve my public speaking skills.

First, I believe my presence is crucial. I am someone who loves the comfort of the podium, who loves the comfort of having a paper or something to read from. I definitely think that I can use my space better, and better interact with my audience.

Second, he spoke about reaching out to all members of our audience. He showed how he demonstrated an example, statistics, a story, and testimonial. When speaking I generally will choose about one of these as a tool, but now I think it is important to use more of these tools so I can better relate with those in my audience.

Lastly, he spoke about word choice. This hit me hard, because it has never really been something that I have thought about. He spoke about listening to airlines, and how they use words like "delayed" and "mechanical difficulties" to better appeal to their audience and not offend them. THIS IS SO TRUE!! I really learned that I can improve the word choice I use to better appeal and relate to my audience.

I am so happy he came and spoke to us!! I just signed up for public speaking:) CANNOT WAIT!!
